Four years ago I started a blog about television and my unique viewing habits. The blog settings weren’t set to private – it was out there for the world to see – but I didn’t tell anyone. It existed only for my own reading pleasure. Today I’m making a pledge to actually start posting regularly and maybe turn this into something somebody out there enjoys.
To make this shift official, the name of the blog is changing. The previous name, Matt’s Unnamed TV Blog, is no more. Starting today, welcome to the TV Statistician. That term, “TV statistician,” means something in my current job. It’s what you call the person feeding stats and trends to sports broadcasters during games, something that isn’t a part of my job on a regular basis but a job I’ve performed a handful of times. For this blog, I’m a different kind of statistician.
To the casual TV viewer, my routine with shows may seem … intense? Maybe that’s not the right word. Thorough. That’s a more positive view on it.
I use the PWR system. I pick a show, I watch a show, I rate a show (like the PER system, get it?… from Mike and Tom Eat Snacks?… hopefully somebody someday somewhere will get that reference…).
A description of my actual rating system is detailed in the first post of the previous version of this blog, plus this update.
With Better Call Saul starting up earlier this month (every time I type that out I type “Better Caul Saul”), I figure that’s as good a spot as any to launch this new version of the blog. The next post will review the two-episode series premier and compare my rankings to the first episodes of Breaking Bad and other AMC shows.
What I’m Listening To
Although the TV shows will be the focus of this blog (hence the title), I think a regular feature about the podcasts and music I’m listening to might be an interesting addition. I don’t rate podcasts like I do TV shows, but I do consume them faster than any other type of entertainment. Between getting ready in the morning, my commute, my lunch, my time on the computer after the wife and baby go to sleep … I probably listen to about two hours of podcasts every day. Music less so, but I get in moods where that’s the preference.
I don’t know yet if I’ll actually offer commentary, or just list them. For today, just a list…
